The best way to improve is to actually write. Just kidding… kind of. The reality is that this question comes up a lot in my teaching. However, when I actually say that it takes practice and therefore a commitment to practicing, the students all too often lose interest. The following is one important basic for improving your writing skills in whatever language you are writing in: USE GOOD IDEAS!!! Your ideas don’t need to be groundbreaking, but you should write about what you care about. If you are invested in what you’re writing about, you will write better. If you write about things that you don’t care about, you’ll lose momentum before you are even half way through.Your writing will then reflect your boredom. Even if you are writing from a prompt or a given topic, you can always find some part of the subject that is interesting or important to you. Feel free to sometimes manipulate the topic or put a spin on it in order to make it more interesting for you to write about. More often than not, your trainer or instructor will appreciate your creativity! After all, it would be one less boring paper for he or she to correct.
