Despite the similarities to politicians, teachers need to be a like a politician without getting into politics in order to build a student –centered classroom. Some tips are as follows:

  1. Be as democratic as possible. Get your students ideas, find out their needs ideas

  2. Involve your students in the decision-making process whenever possible. Give them choices in terms of in-class and out of class assignments although take care not to leave things too widely open. . For example, if they have to write a paragraph using a particular grammar point, give them two to three options to choose from.

  3. Get to know your students – what makes them tick. Learn their likes and dislikes and remember the details. This will allow you to bring their interests into classroom discussion and activities.
